March is Social Work Month, a time to recognize the tireless efforts of social workers who make a difference in the lives of children and families. At Pathway Caring for Children, our dedicated social workers face daily challenges with flexibility, tenacity, and creativity to provide the best possible care. They are indeed the heart of our mission to help children and families realize the possibilities of their lives.

Tracy Roberts, LSW, is an exemplary figure in social work. As Pathway’s Licensing, Operations and Support Director, she leads her team with empathy, advocacy, and genuine excitement when goals are met. Her 33-year journey with Pathway is a testament to her unwavering commitment to improving the lives of children and families.

Tracy’s career at Pathway began as a case manager at the Boys Group Home. Over the years, she has grown professionally, taking on increasingly responsible roles within the organization. Her current position as Licensing, Operations and Support Director allows her to leverage her extensive experience to guide and support her team effectively.

One of Tracy’s most cherished memories at Pathway occurred during the organization’s 40th anniversary celebration. She had the honor of recognizing the first foster child she had worked with, who was only 8 years old at the time. Tracy recalls:

“I was so proud to have been a part of her growing up and watching her continue into her adult life with her children, marriage, and nursing degree. A great night and many happy tears filled the room.”

This full-circle moment exemplifies the long-lasting impact of social work and the positive change it can bring to individuals’ lives. Tracy’s former foster child has now become a Pathway Foster Parent herself, further demonstrating the ripple effect of compassionate care and support.

Another significant memory for Tracy was a day trip to Cedar Point with 16 Pathway staff members and foster children. This experience reinforced the importance of creating positive memories and providing everyday experiences for children in the foster care system. Tracy shares:

“Interacting with the kids and sharing these experiences with them really is empowering and reminds me why I became a social worker. So often, we hear about the crisis that our children endure, but it sure is nice to experience firsthand the joy and excitement they have just to do normal stuff like everyone else.”

These moments of joy and normalcy are crucial for children’s emotional well-being and development in foster care. They help them build resilience and create positive associations despite their challenging circumstances.

Tracy’s story highlights the profound impact that dedicated social workers can have on the lives of children and families. By providing consistent support, guidance, and care over many years, social workers like Tracy help create stable environments for children who have experienced trauma or instability.

Through their long-term commitment, social workers at Pathway Caring for Children build trust with the children and families they serve. This trust is essential for fostering growth, healing, and positive change. Tracy’s 33-year tenure at Pathway demonstrates the value of consistency and dedication in the field of social work.
